rusowsky - Johnny Glamour

Jun 2025

In the effervescent Spanish alternative music scene, few names have resonated with as much force and freshness as Rusowsky. Of Belarusian descent, his pseudonym Rusowsky comes from his nickname "Rus" and a combination of "Wazowski," the name of the protagonist of Monsters Inc.

With a proposal that defies labels and blends genres such as pop, lo-fi electronica, bedroom pop, and hyperpop, this young Madrid-born artist has managed to build his own intimate and experimental sonic universe. From his first releases on digital platforms to his consolidation in the national indie scene, Rusowsky has earned a prominent place thanks to his melodic sensibility, his DIY approach, and an aesthetic that connects deeply with new generations. His music not only sounds, but also transmits an atmosphere: melancholic, playful, and deeply personal.

On his recent new album, "Daisy," released on May 23, 2025, we find the song "Johnny Glamour," one of the most representative of Rusowsky's chameleon-like style. With a rhythmic base with a flamenco touch and electric piano chords reminiscent of Latin music, they create a perfect fusion of styles alongside his vocals.

Listen to my remake below and continue reading to learn the steps to recreate each sound.

Rusowsky 'Johnny Glamour' Synths

The song is composed of few but very well-executed layers. The most prominent is the electric piano that begins the song's intro. To recreate it, I adjusted the following Arturia Augmented Piano preset. Remember, you can download all my presets by supporting me on Patreon!

The intro also features a flute I recreated with the Arturia Mellotron. This flute is repeated several times in the song, and later a harmony appears, playing the same melody two steps higher. Listen to it below!

At the end of the song, there's a bridge where the piano sound changes slightly and includes chorus, with some jazzier chords that I love (you can download the MIDI on my Patreon!). To recreate this sound, I used the Arturia DX7 with the following preset. Listen to it below, both solo and in conjunction with the previous piano. Doesn't it sound amazing?

Bass Tone

For the bass sound, I only used the Waves Maserati with the following preset, and a standard compressor.

Rusowsky Vocal Production

Rusowski's vocals are soft and slightly hidden in the instrumental. To produce the vocals, I used the basic effects chain I always use, which you can find in other articles on my website. Additionally, I added a couple more effects to give it the personality of the original song. First, a Goodhertz vibrato that gives the voice movement and dynamics, and Waves ReelADT, which generates a doubled-voice chorus effect, a good option when you're only recording a single vocal track.

Listen below to the difference between the voice without effects and with effects!
